Jake Fromm is set to return to the NFL, with the Detroit Lions announcing his signing following an injury to Hendon Hooker. The former Georgia quarterback joins the Lions after Hooker, the ex-Tennessee star, suffered a concussion during Detroit’s first preseason game.
Jared Goff, who led the Lions to the NFC Championship game last season, remains Detroit’s starting quarterback. Fromm, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, will add depth to the quarterback position as the team prepares for the upcoming season. This marks Fromm’s fourth NFL team; he has previously played with the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, and Washington Commanders.
During his college career at Georgia, Fromm started for three seasons and led the Bulldogs to the national championship game as a freshman in the 2017 season. His impressive college tenure has set high expectations as he makes another bid to establish himself in the NFL.
Currently, Fromm is one of three Georgia quarterbacks on NFL rosters. Matthew Stafford and Stetson Bennett play for the Los Angeles Rams, and Carson Beck is projected as a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could potentially increase the number of Georgia quarterbacks in the league.
The Detroit Lions’ next preseason game is scheduled for Saturday, where they will face the Kansas City Chiefs. They will also play their third preseason game on August 24 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. As the only former Bulldog on the Lions’ roster, Fromm will look to make a significant impact and prove his value to the team.
